Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) softball Amber Gignac

“Amber possesses experience as a former SAGU captain, softball starting athlete and has demonstrated a commitment to positively mentoring student-athletes.  I am certain she will help to advance our program into the next phase of our program’s ongoing success,”  explains head coach Sarah Harman .

This past spring, Gignac wrapped up her collegiate career when she graduated early from SAGU.  After graduating with a degree in counseling, she knew she wanted to get her master’s.  Harman approached her about coaching and for Gignac, working under Harman was the perfect opportunity, “The Lord really opened the doors.  I’m now working for one of the best coaches I ever played for.  I am able to coach at a school where faith is grounded in all aspects of the job.  When I speak to recruits about the school I am able to tell them about the incredible experiences I had while receiving my education at SAGU.”

In her final season playing for the Lady Lions, Gignac was named to the Sooner Athletic Conference 2 nd -team.  Gignac had a batting average of 0.297 and a slugging percentage of 0.365.  She also scored 16 runs for the season.  Gignac picked up 58 putouts and three assists.

As Gignac heads into her first season as the assistant coach, she will also begin her master’s degree in sports management from the United States Sports Academy.  For her, getting her master’s goes right along with her goal of coaching, “I am so excited to begin learning more in depth about the sports world and incorporate that onto the field,” says Gignac.

On February 3, 2017, SAGU will kick-off the season against Austin College in Sherman, Texas.
