SAGU alumnus founds training instituteWaxahachie, Texas — August 9, 2013 — Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) alumnus Fernando Alvarez founded and serves as director for the Rendered Heart Institute and Creative Arts in Houston, Texas.

Alvarez says, "Rendered Heart is designed as an intensive, accelerated pace program that aims to train and equip church leaders. Beginner and advanced classes are offered in music (vocal and instrumental), recording/production engineering, media, and the performing arts, such as dance, hip-hop, rap and prophetic art. Other topics include theology, finances, personal development, and mentoring."

The 12-week Rendered Heart (RH) program operates year-round. The program is currently in its sixth semester. Classes are held at the Baytown, Texas, campus on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-9 p.m. The Baytown campus is located at Emanuel Church. The downtown Houston campus opens in January 2014.

The 8-9 p.m. general session is open to the public at no charge. Alvarez says, "During the corporate session there is worship and preaching. The audience on any given Tuesday or Thursday night runs between 200 and 300 people."

Currently 90 students from over 20 churches are enrolled. Emanuel Church has partnered with RH to provide housing for students from other states and countries. Alvarez says, "Families have opened up their homes to students from Los Angeles, Florida, Guatemala and Mexico."

In August 2008, Alvarez held the first RH conference in Baltimore, followed by conferences in New York, Orlando, Dallas, Houston and Lubbock, Texas. "The purpose of RH conferences is to unite churches and talk about the mindset of the Kingdom, God healing the generations, God preparing the church for revival, and the need to raise up leaders," says Alvarez.

Alvarez shares, "Then the Lord began speaking to me about a strategy to raise up an institute - a combination of transformation, worship and revelatory teaching. RH has become a ministry tool to enhance the culture of local community in the church."

Alvarez is from Dallas, Texas. Alvarez received a scholarship to play football at the University of North Texas (UNT). His sophomore year he transferred to SAGU, where he also received a football scholarship. In Spring 2000, Alvarez graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in church music.

Following graduation, Alvarez served as worship pastor at Champion Center in Woodlands, Houston, for three and a half years. In March 2012 Alvarez began to travel with Lou Engle and TheCall as worship leader and coordinator. He traveled with the group for 2 years.
