"The Trip to Bountiful" is a full-length drama centering on the hope of one Texas woman to reach out of her present into her past in order to find hope for her future. Set in 40s-era Houston, the play traces the agonies and triumphs of Mrs. Carrie Watts as she escapes to Bountiful, the old-time hometown she still loves.

Along the way, she touches the lives of those she comes across, from the girl next to her on the bus to the ticket man at the depot, and even to her own troubled son Ludie and self-absorbed daughter-in-law Jessie Mae at home. The story of Mrs. Watts’ trip to Bountiful with Ludie and Jessie Mae trailing close behind is an inspiring challenge to value people for their incredible worth and to hold dear those around us, no matter what roles they play in our lives.

SAGU offers a Bachelor of Arts in theatre education EC-12 and other degree programs in drama. “A Trip to Bountiful” follows recent performances of other well-known plays including "Humbug," "12 Angry Jurors," "Over the Hills and Through the Woods," “The Boys Next Door,” “1984,” “Pride & Prejudice,” “It’s A Wonderful Life,” and “Arsenic and Old Lace.”
