Music Scholarship

Welcome to the Music Scholarship Application! We look forward to your audition and your interest in SAGU.

Recipient must:
  • Apply to SAGU
  • Declare Music as the major and be actively involved in the music program.
  • All scholarships are disbursed over at least two semesters. Scholarships will be forfeited if the student is placed on any type of probation (academic, disciplinary, chapel, etc.)

The scholarship is available through audition only. The applicant should make an appointment to come on campus for the audition, or may submit a DVD for the audition:

Music Scholarship Application

**Deadline – April 30**

Audition Information

The complete audition needs to include the following:

Brass Auditions

  • Brass Performance, Music Education, Worship Arts

    • All major/minor scales – 2 octaves
    • Two movements from a concerto or sonata from the same or different piece of literature – All State (ATSSB) music is acceptable.
    • Optional: a performance with a worship team

Guitar Auditions

  • (Acoustic Guitar) Performance, Music Education, Worship Arts

    • Major, minor and pentatonic scales (at least 2 out of the 3)
    • Two pieces featuring varying styles/techniques
    • One jazz standard or one classical piece
    • Sight-read one line of guitar tab and one melody on a treble clef
    • Optional: a performance with a worship team
  • (Bass Guitar) Performance, Music Education, Worship Arts

    • All major and minor scales and arpeggios
    • Two pieces featuring varying styles and techniques
    • Two jazz standards including bass line (at least one walking line), melody and solo
    • Optional: a performance with a worship team

Percussion Auditions

  • Percussion Performance, Music Education, Worship Arts

    • All major scales – 2 octaves (keyboard); snare solo and 40 Rudiments
    • Drum Set – three contrasting styles: Latin, Funk, Rock, Blues, Swing, Ballad, etc.
    • Demonstrate ability to read on multiple instruments.
    • Optional: a performance with a worship team

Piano Auditions

  • Performance, Music Education, Worship Arts

    • Major Keys – C, G, D, A, E, B, F (any two); D-flat, E-flat, G-flat, A-flat, B-flat or their enharmonic equivalents (any two).
    • Minor Keys – a, e, b, d, g, c, f (any two); c-sharp, e-flat, f-sharp, g-sharp, b-flat or their enharmonic equivalents (any two)
    • A movement from a Classical sonata -memorized (Piano Performance only)
    • Two contrasting works, each from a different time period (memorized)
    • Optional: a performance with a worship team; one sacred composition, original or professional arrangement appropriate for Assemblies of God Fine Arts; a standard or jazz tune with your own improvisation

String Auditions

  • String Performance, Music Education, Worship Arts

    • All major/minor scales – 2 octaves
    • Fast movement from a concerto
    • Etude or Caprice
    • Solo movement from a Bach Suite (Performance majors only)
    • Optional: a performance with a worship team

Vocal Auditions

  • Vocal Performance and Music Education

    • One aria/art song (this is a classical selection that can be in any language – performed by memory)
    • Sight-reading
  • Worship Arts

    • One song (classical or contemporary or Musical Theatre – performed by memory)
    • Sight-reading
    • Optional: a performance with a worship team

Woodwind Auditions

  • Woodwind Performance, Music Education

    • All major/minor scales – 2 octaves where possible
    • A prepared piece from a high school solo list or All State music.
    • Jazz students must also play and improvise three jazz standards of contrasting style.
  • Worship Arts

    • All major/minor scales – 2 octaves where possible
    • A prepared piece from a your All State music list
    • One sacred composition, original or professional arrangement appropriate for Assemblies of God Fine Arts.
    • Optional: a performance with a worship team
