The Holy Land Tour
March 6-15, 2020

Join President Kermit Bridges and Pastor Kendall Bridges, for an incredible 10 day journey, March 6-15, 2020, in which we experience the best of Israel. We have drawn from our previous trips to this beautiful country to craft an outstanding itinerary including the classic sites of Israel, such as the Sea of Galilee, Capernaum, Megiddo, Bethlehem, Wailing Wall, Dead Sea, Mount of Olives, and more.

Our annual trips include a pleasant mix of faculty, staff, students and their family members, alumni, and friends of the university. You don’t have to be a SAGU employee or student to participate.

Itinerary

DAY 1: Depart USA

Today our tour members meet at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport for check-in formalities unless alternate flight departure city is arranged with our travel agent. Dinner and breakfast will be served on the international segment of the flight.

DAY 2: Arrive in Israel

Upon arrival at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv the group will be met by our tour guide. Following brief airport formalities, we board our motor coach and go to our hotel on the Sea of Galilee. After we have checked into our hotel, we enjoy a dinner together and time to relax.

DAY 3: Sea Of Galilee/ Boat Ride/ Capernaum/ Mount of Beatitudes/ Tabgha/ Magdala/ Nof Ginosar/ Jordan River

We rise early this morning to view the beautiful shore of the Sea of Galilee where we will spend our day touring sites around the sea associated with the ministry of Jesus Christ. We will visit a beautiful hillside church setting that could be the famous Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount. We will visit Capernaum, the home of Peter, and see excavations from the time of Christ. We will cruise across the Sea of Galilee and enjoy a delicious St. Peters fish luncheon at a famous resort along the Galilean seashore. This is a meal you will never forget. We will see a 1st century fishing boat like those used by Jesus’ disciples. This memorable day ends with the opportunity to be baptized in the waters of the Jordan.

DAY 4 : Bethsaida/ Tel Dan/ Lebanon Border/ Caesarea Philippi/ Banias Falls/ Golan Heights/ Valley Of Tears/ Dolmens/ Peace Overlook

Begin the day by traveling by the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee past Magdala (home of Mary Magdalene) and Bethsaida, active communities during the time of Christ. Continue to Tel Dan, the northernmost ancient Israeli city excavation, before viewing the Lebanon border. Proceed to Caesarea Philippi, the site of worship for the Greek god Pan at the base of Mount Hermon. Continue through the Golan Heights to experience several sites, including the Banias Falls, Valley of Tears, Dolmens, and the Peace Overlook. Overnight Tiberias.

DAY 5 : Beit Shean/ Megiddo/ Mount Carmel/ Caesarea Maritima

This morning our journey takes us to the Jordan valley to visit Beit Shean, one of the Decapolis cities and the remains of a complete Roman City. Our tour continues to Megiddo and the Valley of Armageddon with its prophetic significance. We will see the excavation and museum showing how this famous hill served such an important function in the wars of antiquity. Our day continues along the coastal plain and the Mediterranean Sea to Caesarea. This ancient port was built by Herod the Great and was the place Paul was incarcerated before being sent to Rome. We will tour the fortress used by the Crusaders. Proceed to Jerusalem for Overnight.

DAY 6 : Yad Vashem/ Shrine Of The Book Museum/ Bethlehem

Begin today by touring Yad Vashem, the world Holocaust Museum. Next you will see the first century model of Jerusalem at the Israel Museum, as well the Shrine of the Book. In the afternoon we will visit Bethlehem, where you will see the Church of the Nativity, the Shepherd’s field, and the fields of Boaz and Ruth. We travel back to our hotel for dinner and overnight stay in Jerusalem.

DAYS 7: Jewish Quarter/ Caiaphas’ House/ Davidson Center/ Dome Of The Rock/ Wailing Wall / Rabbi’s Tunnel

Today we begin with a tour of the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem. Next we visit the House of Caiaphas, where Jesus was held the night before his crucifixion. You will visit the Davidson Center with artifacts from the Temple and visit the southern steps where Jesus and the apostles walked. You will be able to pray at the “Wailing Wall” and proceed along the wall underneath the city through the Rabbi’s Tunnel and learn how Herod expanded the size of Mount Moriah to create the Temple Mount for the last Jewish Temple. Mt. Moriah was the site of Abraham’s offering of Isaac as a sacrifice. This will truly be a memorable day! Dinner will be served at your hotel in Jerusalem.

DAY 8 : Jericho/ Qumran/ Ein Gedi/ Masada/ Dead Sea

We depart early to the Jordan Valley toward Jericho, the oldest known inhabited city in the world, and Mount of Temptation. Next we visit Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. Afterwards we travel to Ein Gedi, the desert oasis, and on to Herod’s ancient fortress of Masada, which was built high atop a mountain on the edge of the Dead Sea. Today’s journey will end with time and relaxation on the shore of the Dead Sea. Dinner will be served at your hotel in Jerusalem

DAY 9 : Mount Of Olives/ Garden Of Gethsemane/ Old City/ Cardo/ Via Dolorosa/ Holy Sepulchre/ Garden Tomb

Today we will begin our day of touring at the Mount of Olives and descend on foot to the Garden of Gethsemane. Ancient olive trees stand there, some for more than 2000 years old. We take a walking tour of the Old City of Jerusalem, beginning at the Lions Gate where we will see the old Crusader’s Church of St. Ann, the pool of Bethesda and the remains of Antonia Fortress, the site of the trial of Jesus. We will walk the Via Dolorosa and visit the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Afterwards we will travel to the Garden Tomb where you will have a worship service and communion. This will be a truly memorable time on your tour. A farewell dinner will be served; then we travel to Tel Aviv to board the overnight flight to the U.S.A.

DAY 10 : Return to USA

Relax and reflect on your flight home.
