Biography

Dr. Amanda Lee Hing is an accomplished pianist who actively performs both as a soloist and collaborator. She also serves as a clinician and adjudicator at numerous festivals and competitions. Dr. Lee Hing joined the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) faculty in 2006 and currently holds the positions of Professor of Piano and Director of Piano Studies. Additionally, she serves as the faculty adviser for the SAGU Collegiate Chapter of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), which received the prestigious 2013 MTNA Benjamin Whitten Collegiate Chapter of the Year award.

In 2016, Dr. Lee Hing was appointed the Artistic Director of the Waxahachie Symphony Association. She actively contributes to the music community, serving as a Frisco Music Teachers Association board member and chairing the Original Composition Contest for the Dallas Music Teachers Association. She also plays a pivotal role as the Texas Music Teachers Association Conference Student Activities Coordinator. Her involvement extends to leadership positions, including Vice President of the Arlington Music Teachers Association and Chair of the Texas Music Teachers Association Collegiate Chapters of MTNA from 2014 to 2017. Moreover, she served on the editorial board of Texas Music Teachers from 2016 to 2017.

Dr. Lee Hing’s dedication to music education and presentation is evident in her participation as a speaker at MTNA National Conferences and the Texas Music Teachers Association State Convention. She has also chaired the Texas Music Teachers Association Collegiate Conferences from 2014 to 2016. Her commitment to sharing knowledge has taken her to various parts of the United States and Asia, where she has conducted masterclasses and pedagogy workshops.

Throughout her career, Dr. Lee Hing has garnered numerous accolades, including winning the 2007 Piano Texas International Academy and Festival Teachers Concerto Competition, which was organized in collaboration with the Van Cliburn Foundation and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. Her achievements extend to academic honors such as the WVU Performance Grant Award, WVU Outstanding Senior Award, WVU Young Artist Concerto Competition Award, Music Teachers National Association Student Achievement Recognition Award, and the International Peace Scholarship from the Philanthropical Educational Organization Foundation (Des Moines, Iowa). Additionally, she was named the alternate winner of the 2000 West Virginia Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Performance Competition. Her academic journey includes recognition as the West Virginia University Chancellor’s Scholar and the Southern Regional Education Board Doctoral Scholar, supported by The Pew Charitable Trusts and the Ford Foundation.

Dr. Lee Hing has showcased her exceptional piano skills as a soloist with various orchestras and ensembles, including the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, WVU Symphony Orchestra, WVU Chamber Winds, SAGU Wind Ensemble, SAGU Concert Band, and the Waxahachie Area Concert Band. She is also the author of “David Amram’s Sonata for Piano: A Merger of Contemporary Classical and Jazz Styles.”

She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree, Master of Music Degree, and Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance from West Virginia University (WVU). She also earned a Diploma of Music from UCSI University in Malaysia. Her credentials further include Licentiate and Associate diplomas from Trinity College of Music, London, and a Diploma in Piano from The Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music, London. Her extensive teaching experience spans Washington and Jefferson College (Pennsylvania), Glenville State University (West Virginia), and the WVU Community Music Program. Her students have achieved remarkable success, consistently earning top prizes in local, state, and national competitions. Moreover, her collegiate students have been honored to present their research at state and national music conferences.
