Welcome to new Director of Development and Alumni

By: Rick Bowles, Vice President, University Advancement

Alumni and friends,

I am excited to introduce our new Director of Development and Alumni, Tony Garza. He and his family begin June 3.

Tony and his wife Esmeralda will celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary this July. They also have a 6-year-old daughter Melody and 4-year-old son Ian. Their family enjoys watching and cheering for the Rangers, Cowboys, and Mavs. They also enjoy worship music, biking, hiking and frozen yogurt.

They have served as assistant pastors and in worship ministry in El Paso, TX, for the last 8 years. They are certified educators and have taught in public, private, and charter schools. They also both earned master's degrees from SAGU in 2011.

Tony's master's degree was in school counseling. He then completed a Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership at Grand Canyon University. His dissertation title was “The Relationship Between Leadership Style and Conflict Management Style of Christian Pastors.” Tony has a passion for leadership and leadership development.

Tony says, "We had a wonderful experience during our time as students and are extremely excited to join the SAGU staff family! I feel honored for the opportunity to serve as the Director of Development and Alumni and look forward to meeting and working with the rest of the team. What a blessing to be part of what God is doing through SAGU!"

We are proud to have Tony and Esmeralda join us. We are heading in an exciting new direction that will bring greater community opportunities for alumni. Are you ready to join us?
