Waxahachie, Texas- December 3, 2015- It was forced into overtime, but the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s basketball team couldn’t pull it out against Bacone College .  The Warriors topped the Lady Lions 66-59.  Both Bacone and SAGU are 4-4 for the season.  This was the first game in Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) play for both schools.

With 22 seconds left in the first quarter the game was tied 12-12 after a made shot by Laken Ward .  Ward then made a free-throw that put SAGU ahead 13-12 at the end of the first.  From that point forward in regulation play, SAGU held the lead.

With 6:40 left in the game, SAGU’s lead extended to 11 after Ward made a free-throw.  Bacone then scored a quick six points, cutting the score to 47-41 with 4:07 left.

At the 2:00 mark, SAGU went up 52-47 after Alexis McAffee made a shot.  Bacone’s Kim Scott made two free-throws in a row, followed by a made free-throw by Jasmine Flanagan , making the score 52-50.

With 0:47 left to play, SAGU’s Taylor Hill made both free-throws, extending the Lady Lions lead 54-50.  Unfortunately on BC’s next trip down the court, Seanna Arredondo hit a three-point shot to make it a one point game with 44 seconds to play.

Once again, Hill made it to the free-throw line, making the first but missing the second.  Bacone grabbed the defensive rebound and with 0:05 left, Flanagan made the tying basket.

In overtime, Bacone jumped to the early lead on SAGU and never looked back.  The Lady Warriors outscored the Lady Lions 10-4.  Bacone ended with a 66-59 victory.

Senior Taylor Hill scored 11 points for SAGU.  She also had three steals, five assists, and 10 rebounds.  Junior Laken Ward scored 10 points and added five rebounds. Dy’Teesha Diggles added seven rebounds for the Lady Lions.

For Bacone, Jasmine Flanagan scored 21 points.  Kim Scott added 16 points and 11 rebounds.

SAGU will travel to John Brown University (Arkansas) on Saturday, December 5, 2015.  Game time is at 1:00pm.  JBU is currently 6-3 overall and 1-0 in the SAC.
