Dr. Jerry Nance, SAGU alumnus and Executive Chairman of the Board for Global Teen Challenge, will be the speaker for the Homecoming Banquet to be held on Friday, September 30, 2022.

We are pleased to announce that SAGU alumnus, Dr. Jerry Nance, will be joining us on Friday, September 30th as our 2022 Homecoming banquet speaker. After beginning his career as a pastor, Dr. Nance went on to become an instructor for the first Teen Challenge staff training school and worked in various capacities with Teen Challenge for over 31 years. He served on David Wilkerson’s crusade staff with World Challenge before becoming President/CEO of Teen Challenge of Florida in 1991, a role he held until 2017. During this time, he led that organization to become the largest Teen Challenge system in the world, a system which includes 23 residential centers for boys, girls, men, and women in six states.

After many years serving as its President and CEO, Nance has now assumed the role of Executive Chairman of the Board for Global Teen Challenge, which provides leadership and training tools for Teen Challenge leaders and programs around the world. He also maintains the key role of fundraising for GTC and its affiliates, traveling and speaking at conferences, assisting international leadership in 125 nations and working with them to fulfill the Teen Challenge mission of putting hope within reach of every addict.

Nance has proven himself to be a great leader in fund development as well as a passionate advocate for mentoring, training, coaching and releasing young leaders. He has also found the time to author several books, including Dream to Reality and Core Values, which are used extensively in Teen Challenge programs around the world. Additionally, he wrote Finding the Fun in Fundraising and co-authored FUNdamentals of Family Life with Joe Phillips.

Dr. Nance is known as a servant leader, a man of compassion who has a deep concern for those who struggle with addiction. From his comments in a recent interview, it is clear that his heart beats in sync with the ministry of Teen Challenge when he states, “We really hope to put hope in reach of addicts everywhere and in these families that are looking for care. We know that Christ is the hope. We know that there is a transformation. We know it’s possible.”

For his exemplary accomplishments, Dr. Nance will be presented at the SAGU Homecoming banquet with the P.C. Nelson Distinguished Alumnus Award, which is awarded to an alumni, Staff or Administrator, who has achieved prominence in a particular field of service and demonstrated outstanding loyalty and service to SAGU.
