Waxahachie, Texas – January 15, 2018 – The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s basketball team lost against Texas Wesleyan University in the Sheaffer Center, 101-92.  The outcome of the game gave TWU the second place spot in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC).

The SAGU men played a very competitive first half against the Texas Wesleyan Rams. The Rams led the game going into the half with a score of 57 to 51. In the second half the Lions went back and forth with the Rams. The Lions began to close the gap towards the end of the game but came up short. The final score was Texas Wesleyan 101, SAGU 92

“It was a tough loss tonight. We didn’t defend at a high enough level to compete the way that we wanted. I loved our fight at the end, but we must come out ready to play consistently as we are about to start the second round of conference play,” explains SAGU Head Coach Delton Deal.

SAGU’s Josh Swearingin came off the bench to lead the Lions with 20 points.  Jalen Petillo followed with 18 points and Cameron Hill had 15 points.  Cody Farmer was three-for-three from the three point line.

For TWU, Branden Jenkins scored 28 points with four steals and eight rebounds.

The Lions will go back into action against Southwestern Christian University in Bethany, Oklahoma on January 18 , 2018 at 8:00 P.M.
