The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women and men’s basketball team were swept by Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, TX , in their first conference matchups back from the winter break. Both the Pioneer teams are ranked nationally in the polls released yesterday, the women being #6 and the men placed #24 in the country.

The women were down by single digits the whole game until the end, the final score ended up being 66-76 to the 11-2 Lady Pioneers. SAGU was led by Lexi Rich who just received the national NAIA player of the week award; Rich ended with 21 points, five assists, and three rebounds. Jenna Price was dominant in the post during the second half with 17 points and four rebounds. WBU was led by Kambrey Blakey who had 25 points on 11 shot attempts and eight rebounds with two steals in 25 minutes of gameplay. WBU is currently #1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings and the Lady Lions fall to #8.

The men dropped their fourth game of the season as the WBU Pioneers shot 50% from the field and 41.7% from three. Josh Kashila had his sixth 20 point game of the season with 24 points, three assists, and two offensive rebounds. Kobe Wrice and Nyk Mason also landed in double-digits on the night with Wrice with 12 and Mason with 11 to go along with seven rebounds and one steal. The Lions had fewer turnovers, more blocks, more steals, and more dead ball rebounds than the Pioneers in this SAC game. JJ Culver had a huge game for the Pioneers with 29 points on the game and 20 in the first half. Jack Nobles was next for them 23 points and eight rebounds. WBU jump to #3 in the SAC and SAGU falls to #7 in the standings.

Their next games will be on Saturday, January 5th in Guymon, OK, at Oklahoma Panhandle State University . The women will start at 2 pm, and the men will follow at 4 pm to try to get them back in the win column.
