Thursday night’s doubleheader against Bacone College ended with the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) basketball teams sweeping the Warriors. The women scored over 100 points for the second time this season winning by 64 points, 101-37. On the men’s side, they got their 14th win of the season as they score 52 points in the second half winning 82-68.

The Lady Lions had seven players score over five points on the night: Lexi Rich (21), Sydney Meador (17), Eva Atunwa (16), DyTeesha Diggles (10), Mckenzie Martin (9), Tamera Derrough (8), and Kiara Glenn (7) . The key to their victory was 42 bench points with Atunwa having 16 of the 42 and leading them in rebounding with eight. Rich had five 3’s during the game for the sixth time this season, her season high was the previous game at OCU with eight. Derrough had her most efficient game of the season with eight points, six assists, and five rebounds. SAGU is now 13-7 overall and 7-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference sitting in 5th place, they are one win away from their total from the previous season of 14.

The men knocked down 31 of their 60 shots for 51.7% from the field and 8 of their 15 3’s for 53.3% on one of their most efficient shooting nights of the season. Nyk Mason and Josh Kashila led the way for the Lions with Kashila scoring 25 to tie his season high on points/3 pointers made; Mason had 20 points and four rebounds. Cameron Hill scored in double-digits for the 12th time this season with 12 points. Darian Davis was one point shy of a double-double with nine points, 12 rebounds, and three assists. They are one game out of 2nd place behind Langston University and John Brown University (JBU) with tomorrow’s game being against JBU.

Both teams will face JBU in Arkansas tomorrow, Saturday, January 25th. The women will start at 1 pm, and the men will follow for a 3 pm tipoff.
