Waxahachie, Texas- October 28, 2015 – The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s basketball team kicked-off the season in convincing fashion with a 101-43 win over Southwestern Adventist University .

The first home game of the season is the annual Texas Snowstorm , where fans throw ping pong balls onto the court after the first basket of the season is made.  One minute into play junior Remington Mitchell got an offensive rebound that led to a made basket for the Lions.  From that point on, SAGU’s lead grew.

“I was excited for the student body. We had a great crowd. The snowstorm is a really unique tradition and a great way to start the season,” says head coach Donnie Bostwick , “We were the better team tonight and there were some good things we can take from the game. They all get more difficult from here on out.”

At halftime, SAGU dominated in every statistical category, including rebounds.  In the first half the Lions had 23 defensive rebounds and 11 offensive rebounds compared to SAU’s one offensive rebound and six defensive rebounds, making it a 34 to seven margin in favor of SAGU.

Six SAGU players scored in the double digits; senior Emmanuel Adoyi and junior Tyler Pate each had 15 points, Mitchell and freshman Isaak Rowe each added 13 points, freshman Aaron Embry had 12 points and freshman Markey Young had 10 points.  SAGU went 14 of 31 from the three point line, shooting over 45-percent.  Pate went three for six beyond the arc.

Mitchell had 10 rebounds and four blocked shots for the Lions.  Young had nine rebounds and Adoyi added eight.

Bostwick is happy to get win number one under their belt, but now it’s time to focus on the next opponent, “It’s a long season and our goal is to just to focus on the little things! Do that and you give God a chance to do big things.”

SAGU will play Paul Quinn College on Saturday, October 31, 2015.  Game time is 7:00pm in Dallas, Texas.
