Tiffany Phillips of the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s basketball team has been named NCCAA Regional Coach of the Year for the 2018-2019 season. Coach Phillips led the Lady Lions to a 21-12 overall record and 14-8 in the Sooner Athletic Conference . This was SAGU’s best season since 2009 from obtaining a 20+ win season. The Lady Lions beat Mid-America Christian University (73-70) before losing to the NAIA national runner-up Oklahoma City University in the semi-finals of the SAC tournament .

Besides one of the best seasons in school history they were ranked in the top 20 nationally in ten different categories: 5th in total 3-pointers made (284), 6th in 3-pointers made per game (8.6), 7th in free-throw percentage (77.2), 12th in 3-point field goal percentage (34.4%), 13th in total scoring with 2459 points, 14th in defensive rebounds per game (28.79), 16th in scoring offense per game (74.52), 18th in total blocks (114), 18th in field goal percentage defense (36.5%) , and 19th in total rebounds with 1332).

Coach Phillips has had a steady increase in wins since the 2016 season and will look to continue to make a jump from this historic season to next. The Lady Lions are hitting the recruiting trails and working hard in the offseason before school ends in the next couple of weeks. SAGU will return their starting guards in Kiara Glenn, Lexi Rich, and Sydney Meador for the 2019-2020 season. Rich and Meador came off of SAC All-Conference seasons while point guard, Glenn had career highs in multiple categories.

Southwestern Assemblies of God University is a private, Christian university located 30 minutes south of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex in Waxahachie, Texas.
