Kansas City, Missouri – July 19, 2017- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 1,677 teams that have earned the distinction for Scholar-Teams for the 2016-2017 year.  All five of Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s teams have received the honor.

The Lady Lions women’s basketball, softball, cross country, soccer and volleyball captured the highest academic honor available in the NAIA.  For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).  The team grade point average includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.

The team’s GPA are as follows: Women’s Basketball (3.13), Softball (3.47), Cross Country (3.10), Women’s Soccer (3.12), Volleyball (3.23)

The NAIA has picked three teams to share the Scholar-Team of the Year award.  Arizona Christian’s women’s cross country team, Indiana Tech’s women’s golf team and Midland’s (Neb.) women’s volleyball team all tied for an NAIA-best combined 3.90 grade point average this year.
