Goodwell, OK- Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Men’s Basketball team traveled to Goodwell, Oklahoma on Thursday night to take on Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) in another Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) contest. The Lions (16-3, 8-3) dominated the Aggies (4-15, 0-11) by the score of 98-64.

Josh Kashila scored 19 points in a win over OPSU

Top Performers

  • Nyk Mason ( SO/Frisco, TX ) led all scorers with 21 points.
  • Josh Kashila ( JR/Euless, TX ) stuffed the stat sheet with 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists.
  • Kentton Williams ( SR/ Levelland, TX ) (18) and Cortland Blake ( FR/Fort Worth, TX ) (10) also finished in double-figures for the Lions.
  • The Lions took care of business on the glass outrebounding OPSU 41-30.
  • SAGU got a boost from their bench as they compiled 35 points.
  • The Lions owned the paint outscoring OPSU 54-18.

Lions Review

  • OPSU seemed like they were ready for the challenge as the hopped out to a quick 5-0 lead on SAGU.
  • Mason went on a 7-0 run on his own to draw the Lions within one at 10-9.
  • Mitchell McMullen ( SR/San Antonio, TX ) drained a three-pointer to put the Lions on top 16-10 with 14:03 left in the first half.
  • OPSU tied the game twice once at 20-20 and again 24-24, but then the Lions put together a 16-4 run to take a double-digit lead (40-28) with 4:20 remaining in the half.
  • Howard Turner ( FR/Detroit, MI ) hit a bucket as time expired to give SAGU a 52-36 lead going into the locker room.
  • With nearly five minutes gone in the second half, the Lions saw their lead swell to 65-43.
  • Darian Davis ( SR/Garland, TX ) gave the Lions a 30-point lead (83-53) with just under nine minutes remaining.
  • The Lions would cruise to victory nearly scoring in triple digits with a final of 98-64.

What’s Next

SAGU (16-3, 8-3) is in sole possession of third place in the SAC standings. They will try to maintain that spot as they travel to Planview, TX to take on Wayland Baptist University who is only one game back from SAGU in the SAC standings. The game will be played on Saturday, February 1st at 3:45 p.m.
