Thanks for your interest in The Image, the creative writing journal of Southwestern Assemblies of God University. We publish work by SAGU students, alumni, staff, faculty, and administration every spring semester.

Our Reading Period:

Because this is a spring production, we read submissions each year from January until Spring Break.

When submitting work to The Image , please put your name and what genre you are submitting in the subject line of your email (e.g., S. Yale – poetry).

Please submit your work in the body of the email, with the exception of photography and art, which should be submitted as an attachment.
Please submit separate emails if you are submitting work for different genres.
Please do not submit more than two submissions in each genre.
Email all submissions to [email protected].

Memoir


We are looking for first person essays/memoirs. Essays should be between 500 and 1000 words.
Include the word count in the body of your email.

God Moments


We are looking for devotionals and testimonial essays. Submissions should be between 500 and 700 words and include relevant scripture for reflection.
Include the word count in the body of your email.

Poetry


Please submit no more than 5 poems at a time. We are looking for poetry that is clear and easy to understand for any reader; we’re not too keen on abstract or avante-garde work.

Art/Photography


Submit up to 3 pieces of art and/or 3 pieces of photography (so no more than 6 total submissions).

Short Fiction


We are looking for short fiction pieces. Short fiction should be between 500 and 1500 words.
Include the word count in the body of your email.

​PUBLICATION POLICY

The Image is published annually in the spring semester as an e-journal by the English Department of Southwestern Assemblies of God University to showcase the original creative works of the students, faculty, staff, administration, and alumni of the University.
All works submitted for publication may be edited in order to comply with the publication requirements of the journal. However, no work will be edited to the degree that it violates the contributor’s original intent and style.
Budget restraints for this publication do not allow for financial compensation.
By submitting your work to The Image , you are granting Southwestern Assemblies of God University the first rights to your work with the knowledge that your material may be reproduced by Southwestern Assemblies of God University to use in promotional materials or for other desired means.
All other rights revert to author upon publication.
