Experiential Learning Credit
How Portfolio Development Works
Experiential Learning Credit may serve as a foundation for your
educational planning at SAGU. You have opportunity to earn
up to 25 percent of your degree plan (approximately 30 credit
hours). Experiential Learning Credit helps you by
validating the worth of learning you have achieved on your own, identifying
what you need to learn to achieve your personal, career, or academic goals,
shortening the time and tuition required to earn a college credential, enhancing
your pride and
self-esteem, and enhancing your undertstanding of learning as a lifelong process.
Enroll as a Distance Education student in Portfolio Development.
This three hour course is designed to teach the process of writing and
assembling the portfolio. Credit for the course is given upon submission
of the portfolio, regardless as to whether the portfolio gains any credit
for prior experiential learning.
Create your portfolio. You will receive instruction on the proper
way to develop your portfolio. This will include writing a self-evaluation
in five key areas and compiling documentation.
Submit two copies of your completed portfolio. Two copies of
your portfolio will be due in the Distance Education office by the date
specified in the course syllabus. Your portfolio will be reviewed by
the Portfolio Assessment Committee composed of four faculty who represent
the Universitys various disciplines.
Interview with the Portfolio Assessment Committee. The Instructional
Specialist will schedule an interview for you. Interviews are held during
the Registration Week of the semester immediately following the date
of submission. You will receive
notification of your interview date and time by both mail and email.
Notifying and documenting your prior learning experience.
