SAGU unveils new athletic logo
Waxahachie, Texas - February 22, 2013 - Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) unveiled a new athletic logo during the men's basketball win over Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) on Thursday, Feb. 21.
SAGU will join the Sooner Athletic Conference beginning in the 2013-2014 season. The university is also adding cross-country this fall.
The new athletic logo was a joint effort between SAGU's marketing and athletics departments.
SAGU offers cross-country as a varsity sport
Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) will offer cross-country as a men's and women's varsity sport in Fall 2013. Teams will compete in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) in the National Athletic Intercollegiate Association (NAIA).
The competitive season in the SAC will consist of five meets and the conference championship. SAGU will join 199 NAIA institutions that sponsor cross-country.
SAGU continues snowstorm tradition
In 2011 Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) began a new tradition called the SAGU Snowstorm. This year's snowstorm took place on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 7:30 p.m. during the first home game of the season against Dallas Christian University.
On Tuesday night, fans launched more than 3,000 ping-pong balls onto the court to celebrate the first home basket of the season. Cheerleaders, players and other volunteers cleared the ping-pong balls from the court, and the referees enforced an administrative technical foul against the Lions.
Rambo named Co-Player of the Year
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division I Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Association All-America Committee announced SAGU’s Dominique Rambo as a National Co-Player of the Year on March 20, 2013. Rambo shares the award with Vic Moses from NAIA National Championship winner Georgetown College (Ky).
Rambo was also the first athlete in SAGU history to make NAIA’s First Men’s All-American Basketball Team.
Beadles earns 100th SAGU career win
Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Women's Head Basketball Coach Arlon Beadles achieved his 100th SAGU win on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, as the Lady Lions beat Dallas Christian College, 79-39. It was Beadles' 200th college basketball win.
SAGU Athletic Director Jesse Godding shared, "Arlon Beadles has led SAGU women’s basketball to unprecedented success during his tenure as coach.
