Hagee Building History
The newest addition to the SAGU campus is the Hagee Communication Center (HCC). At 80,000 sq. ft., it is the second-largest building on campus. The HCC houses a performing arts auditorium, classrooms, rehearsal halls, film screening/preaching and speech labs, black-box theater, TV/film and audio studios, digital editing labs, music practice rooms, Einstein's Bro Bagels and much more.

  • President Bridges announces plans for a World Communication Center to the campus family.

  • SAGU receives donation of $6.8 million toward the Hagee Center.

  • SAGU receives approval for $1 million challenge grant from the Mabee Foundation.

  • SAGU celebrates the ceremonial groundbreaking for the new Hagee Communication Center. State Representatives Gary Elkins and Jim Pitts, Waxahachie City Manager Paul Stevens, and alumnus Dr. John Hagee attended the groundbreaking. President Bridges announced the receipt of another $2 million gift, putting SAGU within $1 million of the $21 million dollar goal.

  • 3i Construction finalizes design and engineering.

  • Construction of the foundation begins with an expected October completion. Good, Fulton & Farrell Interior Design is contracted to assist with the interior design and finishes.

  • Concrete is poured. Construction crews construct the walls of the eastern end of the building facing East University Dr.

  • Construction crews begin installing steel beams for the west end of the Hagee Communication Center.

  • The second floor and roof became discernable. And there is now a small flight of stairs on one of the wings facing Davis Hall. The final section of concrete in the auditorium was poured.

  • Sheet metal has been installed on the roof of the facility, providing moderate shelter during the unexpected changes in weather. Early masonry begins. Alumni are allowed to sponsor seats and name them in honor of loved ones.

  • 2013
  • Steel construction is complete. 95 percent of the internal framing is complete and the classrooms, offices and common areas take shape. Workers construct the catwalk system in the auditorium.

  • SAGU meets requirements for $1 million matching grant from the Mabee Foundation.

  • 99% of interior walls are constructed, and drywall is installed.

  • President Bridges announces naming the building in honor of Dr. John and Diana Hagee.

  • Exterior brickwork is complete. 3i Construction installs equipment and furniture for Einstein Bros Bagels.

  • Einstein Bros. Bagels officially opens for business, featuring a full menu of breakfast, lunch and dinner.

  • 3i finalized installation of flooring, landscaping and exterior signage as students returned to school the first week of September. Classes meet in the western end of the facility as construction continues on the remainder. Courtyard landscaping and the fountain are completed.

  • Seats are installed in the HCC auditorium.

  • 2014
  • SAGU dedicates the Hagee Center with guests John and Diana Hagee and Superintendent George O. Wood.

  • SAGU begins first semester with the entire facility open for use.
