Lady Lions play 30-games, 14 at home

SAGU opens Nov. 5 against Dallas Christian College

winston-at-midnight-madness WAXAHACHIE, Texas  — The Southwestern Assemblies of God University women’s basketball season is less than five weeks away and the anticipation is mounting.

The Lady Lions are coming off back-to-back losing campaigns, going 9-21 last fall and 10-21 during the 2011-12 season.

Veteran Head Coach Arlon Beadles will take to the court with a cast of nine returners as well as the return of the 2012 national leader in blocking shots. That group welcomes five newcomers.

Among the fifteen are two key starters who missed last season due to injuries. Many are expecting a big turnaround.

As is his modus operandi, Coach Beadles’ teams build their backbone on defense. This year’s squad figures to be solid on the boards as well.

Assistant Coach Kory Henry says the team’s depth could be its best in years.

SAGU has released their upcoming 30-game schedule. It includes 12 dates this semester, five of them at home. The remaining 18 contests are slated for next semester, nine in the friendly confines of the Sheaffer Center (capacity: 1,500).

Ten of the 14 home games will be broadcast in HD by SAGU Sports Live .

The Lady Lions have three exhibition games, including one against a collection of Alumni former players during Homecoming weekend.

The regular season commences on Tuesday, November 5, when Dallas Christian College visits Waxahachie for a 6:00pm tipoff.

Later that week, Nov. 8-9, the Lady Lions host the annual SAGU Classic . The team will meet McPherson College (Ks) and LSU-Shreveport on Friday and Saturday.

Team Lioness is on tap for to begin play in the Sooner Athletic Conference this season. They open against league favorite and No. 5 ranked Oklahoma City University .

The home tilt is set for December 5. The Lady Stars finished 28-4 in March after climbing as high as No. 2 in the NAIA.

Only seven of the 30 dates are against teams who posted winning records last winter, each of them racking up 21 or more victories. Eight others were .500 or were within a game of .500.

The entire schedule is currently on the SAGU Athletics website at: https://www.sagu.edu/athletics/womens-basketball/womens-basketball-schedule

Fans can follow most of the games in a digital play-by-play called LiveStats . Seventy percent of home dates will be aired in HD video, while all nine second semester road games can be heard on-line via the new SAGU Sports Network audio productions.

The team will be introduced amidst a myriad of events at the annual Midnight Madness . The favorite of fans will be held on Thursday, October 24, at 11:30pm.
