Chickasha, Oklahoma – October 1, 2016 – The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) soccer teams were swept Friday by University of Science & Arts-Oklahoma (USAO).  The men’s team got beat 3-2 by the Drovers and the Lady Lions were topped 6-1.

Men’s Soccer (L 3-2)
SAGU was the first to score in the 28 th minute. Herberth Gomez assisted Bryan Callejas in his fourth goal of the season.  Less than one minute later, USAO’s Owen Connelly scored to tie the game at one-all.

With 27 minutes left in the game, SAGU’s leading scorer, Juan Herrera-Perla, scored his 11 th goal of the season.

USAO was able to repeat on their next goal, when they scored right after SAGU’s.

In the 68 th minute, USAO was able to score the final goal of the game.

SAGU was able to get eight shots on goal, compared to the Drovers seven.

Goalkeeper Edgar Chavez had one goal allowed and Miguel McQueen had four saves and two goals allowed.

Women’s Soccer (6-1)
The SAGU Lady Lions were simply outshot by the Lady Drovers.  USAO had 10 shots on goal compared to SAGU’s three.  By halftime, USAO was in the lead 2-0.

To start the second half, USAO’s Thais Silva was able to score within seconds, making the score 3-0.

SAGU’s Laura Sturgeon scored with 10 minutes left to play thanks to an assist by Sierra Sabido.

Goalkeeper Kathleen Espinoza had three saves. Kaitlyn Chancey had one.

On Tuesday, October 4, 2016, SAGU will host Southwestern Christian.  The women play at 1pm and the men will follow at 3pm.
