Game One (W 3-0)

SAGU’s Raul Castro pitched all seven innings for the Lions.  Castro had three strike outs while allowing only three hits.

In the bottom of the third, SAGU scored two runs.  With two outs, CJ Bills reached base on a walk.  Raul Castro singled to right, advancing Bills to third.  Castro made it to second on a misplayed grounder by WBU.  Derrick Clement came into pinch run for Castro.  Next, Ethan Greiner singled to right field, scoring both CJ Bills and Derrick Clement.

SAGU picked up their final run in the bottom of the sixth when Parker Aguilar scored after a WBU error.

For the Lions, Drew Hanna went three for three at the plate, with one double.  Ethan Greiner went one for two with one RBI.

Game Two (W 5-3)

Both teams scored one run in the third inning.  With two outs, WBU threw four straight walks, scoring Josh Terry.

In the bottom of the 5 th , SAGU put two runs across the plate.  Raul Castro singled to right field, scoring Josh Terry, followed by Ethan Greiner doubling to deep left-center, scoring Castro.  SAGU took the lead, 3-2.

The Pioneers scored the tying run in the top of the sixth.  Paxton Covel flied out to deep center field, scoring Juan Ponce.

SAGU was able to get out of a pickle in the top of the seventh.  The Lions committed one error that led to two on base.  SAGU’s Payton Barrios struck one out and then the Pioneers grounded out to third base.

At the end of seven, the game was tied 3-3.

In the top of the 8 th , WBU’s Ernesto Lizardi hit a double.  Juan Ponce came into pinch run.  Next, Alex Mumm hit a two-run home run over the left field fence on a 1-1 count.  The home run would seal the deal for WBU, topping SAGU 5-3.

Augie Martinez pitched six innings for the Lions.  Payton Barrios pitched the final two innings.
WBU’s Kevin Torres pitched all eight innings for the Pioneers.

Raul Castro went two for three, with two RBI’s and one run scored.  Josh Terry went one for three and scored two runs.

The deciding game of the series will be play on Saturday, April 8, 2017.  The nine inning game will start at 1pm and will be played at the Waxahachie Sports Complex.
