Waxahachie, Texas- December 2, 2015- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) softball team has signed two new players. Kayla Milstead and Savannah Watson will be joining the Lady Lions for the 2017 season.

“I am excited to announce the addition of these two talented softball-athletes to our program.  These young ladies embody what it means to be a Lady Lion,” explains first year head coach Sarah Harman , “They are extremely competitive individuals and have been achieving at the highest levels of the game. The balance and added athleticism that both Milstead and Watson will bring, matches the exact needs of our program.”

Milstead is currently a senior at Mount Carmel High School in San Diego, California.  During her 2015 season she batted .401 and led her team in RBI’s and extra base hits.  Milstead has started as both a varsity catcher as well as a third baseman.

Signing with SAGU in Harman’s first year was a big draw for Milstead, “I look forward to being coached by Coach Harman and being part of building such a young softball program.  Another big draw is the friendly, personable and spiritual environment.”

Watson is a senior at Frisco Heritage High School in Frisco, Texas.  She is an infielder who has played varsity all four years in high school.  As a junior she was picked second-team all-district.

For Watson, SAGU has strong family ties, “My parents, grandparents, even my uncles attended there.  It’s what made me even think about it in the beginning.  Athletically, I’m looking forward to further developing my skills, as well as the camaraderie of a new team.”

Coach Harman is happy to kick-off her first recruiting class with Watson and Milstead, “Our infield corps will receive key depth and experience and they can also make a statement with their bats as well.  I am eager to welcome them to the SAGU Family.”

This spring, SAGU will kick-off their season on Saturday, January 30, 2016, against Southwestern University.  The doubleheader will be played in Georgetown, Texas.  Game time  is at 1pm.
