National Christian Colleges Athletics Association Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) track and field Jerry Nava Destiny Garza

Jerry Nava , a junior from Euless, Texas kicked off his 2016-2017 outdoor track campaign with a unique double as he finished second in the 5000m and won the 3000m steeplechase.  In Nava’s first ever attempt in the steeplechase he finished in a time of 10:03.68 to break the school record as well as earn the number one time in the NCCAA this season.  Nava’s 5000m time of 16:06.24 is ranked no. three in the NCCAA.

Destiny Garza won the 5000m at the Mississippi College Season Opener as she led the race from the moment the gun sounded. The senior from Houston, Texas finished in a time of 18:27.30 which is number one in the NCCAA and just 20 seconds off her personal record.

Each student-athlete is nominated by his/her respective institution and exemplifies the Christian ideals held by the NCCAA.

On March 25, 2017, the SAGU track team will compete at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
