Waxahachie, Texas- September 2, 2015- The 2015 Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) football team will kick-off the season on Saturday, September 5, 2015 when Westminster College (Missouri) comes to town.  This will be the first meeting between the two schools.

Westminster is a NCAA Division-III school out of Fulton, Missouri. In 2014, WC had a record of 6-4.  This season the Blue Jays have a new offensive coordinator, along with a completely new offensive coaching staff.   Because of the coaching changes, SAGU doesn’t know exactly what to prepare for, “Offensively, Westminster has several weapons.  We don’t know exactly what scheme they will use but we do anticipate them getting the ball into Washington’s hands,” says head coach Frank Tristan .

SAGU will work to defend wide receiver Mike Washington, who was named to the All-Conference squad last year.  In 2014, he tallied 685 receiving yards in 60 receptions with six touchdowns.  Westminster has a veteran offensive line, with all linemen returning from last season.

For the defense, the Blue Jays lost four starters.  Last year the defense allowed 23.7 points per game.
As for the Lions, SAGU returns many key players.  Sophomore quarterback CJ Collins will return.  In 2014 he led the Central States Football League in passing.  SAGU’s top receiver Andrez Brewster will return for his senior season.

According to Tristan, you can expect many offensive guys to get playing time, “We want to go at a high tempo.  We have a good amount of skill guys so we want to spread the ball around.”

The game is scheduled for 11:00am and will be played at Midlothian ISD Multi-Purpose Stadium. SAGU Sports Network will be broadcasting the game live at HERE .  Saturday’s game will be the season opener for both schools.
