Bethany, Oklahoma- January 8, 2016- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s basketball team lost a road game to Southwestern Christian University , 85-66.  The Lions are currently ranked no. 18 in the NAIA and are now 11-4 overall and 2-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC).  SCU is now 4-7 overall and 1-2 in the SAC.

“We have struggled for two games in a row. I was hoping the time off for Christmas break would refresh us, but instead we have had to battle injury after injury,” says head coach Donnie Bostwick .

In the first half, the Lions simply got outplayed.  At half time, SCU was ahead 38-20.  SAGU had 14 turnovers in the first half alone.  They also went 6/23 in field goals, shooting for 26%.

“I did a poor job of managing my timeouts and keeping the game in check the first half,” explains Bostwick, “I want to give SW Christian credit. They brought in some good players at the break. Their center dominated us.”

In the second half, SAGU played better but it wasn’t enough to come away with a win.  As Bostwick said, SCU’s center, James Still, was too dominate inside.  At 6’10, 230 pounds, he was able to score 27 points and pull down 15 rebounds.  SCU’s Gabi Laurent and Mikel Parish each added 17 points.

For the Lions, senior Emmanuel Adoyi scored 18 points and had six rebounds. Rishaad Alexander and Keyunta Watkins each scored 12 points. Isaak Rowe had eight rebounds.

The Lions will be looking to snap their two-game losing streak when they host University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma on Saturday, January 9, 2016.  Game time for the men’s game is 5pm.  USAO is currently 6-4 overall and 1-1 in the SAC.
