Waxahachie, Texas- September 4, 2015- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) volleyball team improved to 3-2 for the season after beating Dallas Christian College (DCC) in four sets (25-18, 25-27, 25-8, 25-12).  Topping DCC is the start of a busy 24 hours for the Lady Lions.  They will host two more games on Saturday.

“I’m very proud of our kids and how hard they played tonight,” says SAGU head coach Hank Moore, “DCC played very well tonight and I’m super impressed with how far they have come under their coaches leadership.  The fans came out and kept the energy of the game going.”

In the first match, SAGU took the early lead and stayed ahead throughout.  Dallas Christian was forced to come from behind in the second set, tying the game and sending it to extra points.  DCC was able to pull ahead with the final two points.  SAGU sealed the deal, winning the third and fourth sets.

SAGU senior Emmalee Smith had 19 digs, freshman Celi Bruce added 14, and senior Caitlin Paschall had 13 digs.  Paschall also added an impressive 47 assists for the contest.

“Mollie McBride stepped up and played extremely well. She led us in kills with 16 on 30 swings and hit .400 for the match. Kali Shaw and Summer Skillern also did well offensively.  Three hitters in double digits is a good night,” says Moore.

Sophomore Mollie McBride had 16 kills.  Kali Shaw had 13 kills and Summer Skillern added 10.

On Saturday, September 5, 2015 SAGU will host Oklahoma Wesleyan University and Wiley College.  At 11am, SAGU will play Oklahoma Wesleyan.  1pm OKWU versus Wiley College and at 3pm, SAGU plays Wiley College.  Neither match is a conference game.
