Lions vs. College of the Ozarks (77-71)

The Bobcats were able to jump out to the early lead.  About half way through the first half, C of O was leading SAGU 16-6.  The Lions were able to chip away at the lead and by halftime they were ahead by one, 35-34.

From 19 minutes on in the second half, SAGU held the lead.  With 3:24 left on the clock, SAGU’s Keyunta Watkins hit two free throws to extend SAGU’s lead 70-61.

C of O’s DeMon Hyler hit a basket in the paint followed by Heath Carmichael’s three point basket after a SAGU turnover.  SAGU’s lead dwindled to four with 1:59 left to play.

Carmichael hit another three with 0:36 left on the clock to make the score 74-71. That was the last time C of O would score and SAGU’s Isaak Rowe went on to hit one free throw and Josh Williams hit two.  The final score was 77-71.

All of SAGU’s starting five scored in the double digits.  Keyunta Watkins had 22 points, Kentton Williams scored 14 points, Josh Williams had 13 and Lance Tipton and Isaak Rowe both added 12 points.  Isaak Rowe had nine rebounds.

Lady Lions vs. Oklahoma Wesleyan University (84-83)

The game came down to the final three seconds, but SAGU’s Charity Page was able to hit a high-pressure free throw to put SAGU over the top.

The game was literally a dead heat at halftime, the score was tied 33-33.   It was the same story at the end of the third quarter when the score was tied for the eighth time of the game at 57-57.

SAGU was able to take the lead for much of the fourth quarter, even extending the lead by six with seven minutes to play.  For the tenth time of the game, OKWU tied the score at 83-83 after a three-point shot by Kayla Morgan with eight seconds left.  With 3.7 left on the clock, SAGU’s Charity Page drew a foul and shot two free-throws.  She missed the first and made the second.  That free-throw was SAGU’s winning point.

Page scored an impressive 27 points for the Lady Lions, going 11-14 at the free throw line.  She also had nine rebounds.  Freshman Taylor Sims score 20 points, had four assists and four steals.  Senior Laken Ward had 16 points with six rebounds.  Lexi Rich added 14 points.
