Waxahachie, Texas- February 6, 2016- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) softball team played their first home game of the season on Saturday when they hosted Austin College .  Despite high scoring games, the Lady Lions lost both games in the doubleheader.

In game one, AC topped SAGU, 7-5.  SAGU’s Ashley Abair started on the mound for the Lady Lions.  Abair had four strike-outs.  She had 12 hits and seven runs scored.

The Roo’s scored one run in both the first and second innings.  SAGU was able to tie the game in the bottom of the third thanks to three hits. Amber Gignac singled to center. Bailey Balloun doubled to deep left-center advancing Gignac to third, who was then able to score after Coburn grounded out to second.  Balloun advanced to third off of Coburn’s sacrifice. Ashley Abair tripled to deep left, scoring Balloun.

Unfortunately for the Lady Lions, Austin College went on attack in the fifth inning.   The Roos had five runs off of five hits and one SAGU error.

In the bottom of the seventh, Coburn drove home a run with a double.  Abair had an RBI and Stringer scored off of an AC error.

“We got production from the top and bottom of the lineup today which is really good to see.   I feel like we’re moving forward in our offensive game,” explains head coach Sarah Harman .

In game one, Gignac was three for four with two runs scored.  Coburn went two for four with two RBI’s and one run scored.  Abair went two for four with two RBI’s.

In the second game the Roos topped the Lady Lions, 9-3.

SAGU was the first to score in game two.  Stringer made it to base after being hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a passed ball.  Ashleyn Stanfill grounded out to second, moving Stringer to third.  Hannah Lee bunted and reached first base on a squeeze play for a base hit that scored Stringer.

Hannah Lee pitched a complete game for SAGU.  Lee had three strike outs, 14 hits and nine runs allowed.

Despite the loss, Harman continues to see good production from her team, “We battled back each game and had runner on base each inning in game two.  This young team is starting to gel together and they are making huge progresses forward.”

On Tuesday, February 9, 2016 the Lady Lions will host Centenary College .  The doubleheader begins at 1pm.
