Waxahachie, Texas – September 17, 2016- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) volleyball team (10-7 overall, 2-1 in SAC) topped Southwestern Christian University (11-3 overall, 2-2 in SAC) in thrilling fashion on Friday night.  The Lady Lions topped the Lady Eagles in five sets (26-24, 21-25, 25-22, 22-25, 21-19).  The game went 2.5 hours.

Head coach Hank Moore couldn’t be more pleased with his young team, “Tonight was one of the best matches I have ever been a part of in 16 years of coaching.  I’m so proud of our kids.  They fought the entire match.”

This was the first five set match of the season.  Both SCU and SAGU met each other nearly point for point all night long.  Two of the sets went into extra points.

Sophomore Kali Shaw had a double/double with a career high 25 kills and 14 digs. Haley Bowers had 12 kills and Summer Skillern added 11 kills.

Paulyea Dawkins had nine kills and a season high 10 blocks.  At one point in a match, Dawkins had three blocks in a row.

Celi Bruce had a career high 26 digs. Boyana Vukadinovic had 24 digs and four aces.

Sophia Ivy had another career-game, with 59 assist. Jenna Schutt had 12 digs, and also added the serving ace that sealed the win for SAGU.

SAGU has a quick turnaround and will play University of Science & Arts-Oklahoma on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at 11am.
