Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s basketball Southwestern Christian University Sooner Athletic Conference

“It was another SAC battle to the end against a very talented Southwestern Christian team who has been very hot of late. I could not be more pleased with the courage we displayed in the face of so much adversity,” explains SAGU Head Coach Donnie Bostwick .

The game was incredibly close throughout, no team held a double digit lead.  It was also tied six times throughout regulation.

SCU held the lead throughout the first half and mid-way through the second half.  With 10:02 left in the game, SAGU’s Josh Swearingin made a basket to give SAGU the 48-47 lead.

In the final seconds, the game turned very exciting.  With 14 seconds left, SCU’s Shawn Scott stepped up to the free throw line and made both, bringing the score within one point.

With 11 seconds left, SAGU’s Keyunta Watkins made two free throws to extend the Lions lead to three.

At the buzzer, SCU’s Joshua Simmons was fouled while shooting a three.  He made three free throws in a row to tie the score at 66, sending the game into overtime.

Overtime didn’t disappoint and once again the game was decided on the free throw line.  In the final 0:16, Isaak Rowe made it to the free throw line four times and made all four shots.  SAGU won 81-79.

“So many guys stepped up and made plays. Dareny Sims , Lance Tipton and Josh Swearingin were huge off the bench. Isaak, Keyunta and Josh Williams have been so big stepping up and carrying us. We will enjoy the hard earned wins and praise God for His Blessings. We have another huge week next week, one game at a time,” says Bostwick.

Isaak Rowe led the Lions with 26 points, going seven-for-nine at the free throw line. Keyunta Watkins scored 22 points.

SCU’s Marvin White and Shawn Scott both scored 22 points.

Up next the Lions will host Wayland Baptist University on Thursday, February 16, 2017.  Currently, WBU is part of a three-way tie for third place in the SAC.
