Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) baseball Sooner Athletic Conference Mid-America Christian University

Game One (L 7-1)

MACU came on strong from the first inning in game one on Friday night.  The Evangels scored four runs in the first and two runs in the second inning.

SAGU scored their only run in the bottom of the first.  Raul Castro reached base after MACU dropped his fly ball.  In the midst of the error, Josh Terry was able to score.

SAGU’s AJ Munoz started on the mound and pitched two innings for SAGU.  Augie Martinez pitched five innings.  Collin Gifford and Damian Garcia also saw time on the mound.

Josh Terry was two for three, with one double and one run scored.

Game Two (L 4-2)

SAGU jumped to the early lead in game two.  The Lions scored one run in both the bottom of the first and the bottom of the second.  In the first inning, Ethan Greiner singled to short, scoring Chris Wallace.

In the bottom of the second, Derrick Clement (who was pinch running for Jake Roelofs), scored after a single by Josh Terry.

Heading into the final inning, the score was tied up at two.  MACU scored two runs in the final inning thanks to Aaron Conway’s double.

SAGU’s Raul Castro pitched the full seven innings with two strike outs.  MACU’s Spencer Madison picked up the win on the mound.

Game Three (W 10-6)

SAGU was able to overcome a six-point deficit to bring home the win in game three.  By the middle of the fourth inning, SAGU was behind 6-0.  The Lions were able to score one run in the fourth, three runs in the fifth and six runs in the sixth inning to bring home the victory.

In the bottom of the sixth, Tanner Lindle started the inning off with a double.    The Lions went onto score six runs off of seven hits and three MACU errors.  The Lions also stranded two on base at the end of the inning.

In the top of the seventh the Lions didn’t mess around, it was three up and three down to end the game.  SAGU’s Jake Payonk pitched three innings and Payton Barrios pitched four.  Barrios got the win for the Lions.
CJ Bills went three for four at the plate, with two RBI’s and one run scored.  Tanner Lindel and Griffin Glenn each had a double.

On Tuesday, March 14, 2017, SAGU will play at Our Lady of the Lake.  The doubleheader begins at noon.  Our Lady of the Lake is currently 9-14 for the season.
