Muskogee, Oklahoma- February 12, 2016- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s basketball team picked up a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) victory after topping Bacone College , 93-63.  The Lions are now 16-9 overall and 7-6 in the SAC.  Bacone is 2-22 overall and 1-12 in the SAC.

“It was another step in the right direction as our bench was the hero tonight,” says head coach Donnie Bostwick , “In order for us to climb back in the race, our bench is vital and the energy they brought was huge.”

The very first play of the game went in Bacone’s favor.  After a SAGU turnover, Brandon Chatman made a three pointer.  The score stayed very close and with 9:51 left in the first half, Bacone took their final lead of the game once Geo Brewer made a shot.  The score was 14-13.

In the final minute of the first half, SAGU’s Keyunta Watkins made a three pointer to extend the Lions led to 14.  With 0:21 left in the half, Watkins stole the ball and assisted SAGU’s Emmanuel Adoyi in a field goal, making the halftime score 37-21.

The second half continued the double digit lead for the Lions.  With 1:47 left in the game, Aaron Embry made a three pointer to give SAGU the biggest lead of the night with 33 points.

Five SAGU players scored in the double digits against Bacone. Emmanuel Adoyi scored 14 points and had six rebounds. Markey Young had 11 points. Keyunta Watkins , Josh Swearingin and Tyler Pate each scored 10 points.  Watkins also had four steals.

For Bacone, Jordan Menzies-Taylor had 19 points.

On Saturday, February 13, 2016, SAGU will host John Brown University at 3pm.   Saturday is Community Appreciation Day.  All residents of south Dallas are welcome to show a local driver’s license for free entry into the game.
