Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s basketball Bacone College Sooner Athletic Conference

SAGU went into Saturday’s game coming off a huge win on Thursday over nationally ranked John Brown University .  The Lady Lions were hoping the momentum carried into Saturday’s game but that wasn’t the case.

The Lady Lions held the lead throughout the first half and into the third quarter.  One minute into the second half, SAGU’s Charity Page extended SAGU’s lead to nine points after a made basket with a follow-up free throw.  The score was 23-14.

The Lady Warriors were able to chip away at that lead.  With 3:12 left in the third, BC’s Ashley Barry-Wallace got a defensive rebound, took it coast to coast, shot it and missed, got the offensive rebound and shot again to finally make it.  Bacone took the lead, 29-28.

With 3:31 left in the game, SAGU’s Alexis McAfee went up for a basket but was fouled in the process.  She made the shot and the follow-up free throw to put SAGU up by one point, 42-41.  That would be the last time SAGU scored.

Statistically speaking, the difference-maker in the game could be from turnovers.  Bacone had 11 turnovers, while SAGU had 22.

Charity Page and Kayla Bise each scored 12 points.  Bise had four three pointers.  Page also had 15 rebounds. Laken Ward had 18 rebounds and 10 points.

For Bacone, both Kim Scott and Cierra Miles both scored 13 points.

The Lady Lions will have a few days to rest before taking on Mid-America Christian University at home on Thursday, January 19, 2017.  Game time is at 6pm.  MACU is currently 12-4 overall and 3-2 in the SAC.
