Lakewood, Colorado- March 10, 2016- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s basketball team picked up their first win in the National Christian Colleges Athletics Association’s (NCCAA) Central Regional Tournament .  The Lady Lions topped Crowley’s Ridge College , 92-68.

“I had a feeling that we would start off a little shaky and we did,” says SAGU head coach Tiffany Phillips , “We wanted to try to push the tempo a little bit and I thought we did a good job of that.”

It took about four minutes before SAGU took the lead from CRC, but once they did, they were quite dominant.  The Lady Lions scored more points against CRC than they have in a game all season long.  The Lady Lions led 22-15 by the end of the first quarter and by halftime SAGU held a 51-32 lead.

“Meghan (Becker) was absolutely on fire and I thought offensively everyone contributed,” says Phillips, “We haven’t shot the ball that well all year long and it felt good to do that last night.”

The Lady Lions had a higher three-point percentage than field goal percentage.  They shot 9-of-17 from beyond the arc at 53%.&

SAGU was led in scoring by senior Meghan Becker .  Senior Bethany Krock scored 15 points and Dy’Teesha Diggles had 13 points. Charity Page had 10 rebounds for the Lady Lions.

On Thursday, March 10, 2016, SAGU will play the no. one seed, Colorado Christian at 5pm.  CCU is currently 19-9 overall.  CCU is a NCCAA Division II school.

Phillips believes CCU will be a strong opponent for the Lady Lions, “This time of the year you just want to be able to survive to play another day and I’m happy we were able to do that.  We will have a challenge with a very good Colorado Christian team but we have been challenged before and stepped up.  I know this team will fight.”
