Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s basketball Texas College

The Lady Lions led for the entirety of the game.  That doesn’t mean Texas College didn’t make it close at times.  With 4:07 left in the first half, SAGU was in the lead 28-18.  TC went on a nine-zero run and with 0:27 seconds left to play they were within one point, 28-27.

Laken Ward went onto make two free throws before halftime and SAGU ended the second quarter 30-27.

By the end of the third quarter, SAGU was leading the Lady Steers 48-34.

With six minutes left in the game, the Lady Lions took their greatest lead of the night when Lexi Rich made a basket to extend SAGU’s lead to 18 points with a score of 57-39.

Next, Texas College went on a similar run to the one they had in the second quarter.  With 1:10 left to play they pulled within five points of the Lady Lions.  SAGU was able to keep the five point lead, and in the end, topped TC 65-60.

Senior Laken Ward scored 19 points and had 13 rebounds for SAGU. Lexi Rich came off the bench to score 16 points with three assist. Alexis McAfee had 10 points and three steals. Charity Page had 16 rebounds.

On Wednesday, November 23, 2016, SAGU will travel to play an exhibition game against Houston Baptist at 7pm.
