Waxahachie, Texas – January 17, 2017- Fans of Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s basketball have known senior Keyunta Watkins is a player worth watching for the past two seasons.  Now, Watkins is getting the attention of the nation.  He has been named as a “top 100 players to watch” by Small College Basketball .

Small College Basketball covers all levels of college basketball except NCAA Division I.  SAGU head coach Donnie Bostwick believes that Watkins is very deserving of the mention, “Keyunta is one of the best shooters in college basketball. He also is a great leader and point guard. He has to handle the challenge of getting us in our offense, taking over when necessary and he always faces the opponent’s defensive strategy centered on him. He is a quality young man that has overachieved in many areas in his life. His faith in Christ has grown and I am very proud of him.”

This season, Watkins is averaging 18 points per game, over three assists per game and 30 steals for the season.  He leads SAGU in both scoring and assists.  He also ranks in six different categories in all the NAIA; he is no. two in total 3-point field goals made (66), no. three in 3-point field goals made per game with 3.7, he ranks no. 10 in total scoring (332 points), no. 26 in points per game (18.4), no. 32 in total steals (30) and he ranks no. 35 in steals per game (1.7).

Small College Basketball will continue to narrow down the list of 100 student-athletes throughout the seas.  On February 15, 2017 they will release a list of 50 players, on March 15, 25 players will be announced.  On April 1, 2017, they will release a video of the finalists for the Bevo Francis Award.

The Clarence “Bevo” Francis Award is presented annually to the player who has had the finest overall season within Small College Basketball. Considerations will be season statistics and individual achievements, awards, personal character and team achievements.  This is an incredibly prestigious award, as this award will only be given to one player within Small College Basketball per season.
