Waxahachie, Texas – February 27, 2017- For the first time this season, Southwestern Assemblies of God University’s (SAGU) Keyunta Watkins has received the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honor.  Two weeks ago, Watkins teammate Isaak Rowe received the same honor.

Watkins is a senior guard from Trophy Club, Texas .  For the past week, Watkins averaged 17.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and was a perfect 14-14 from the free-throw line.  He led his teams to victories over Oklahoma City and St. Gregory’s University .

On Saturday’s win over St. Gregory’s, Watkins hit a huge milestone.  On his way to scoring 22 points, Watkins surpassed the 1,000-point career mark during his two year time at SAGU.

Watkins is not done for the season.  On Tuesday, February 28, 2017, SAGU will host John Brown University at 7pm.  This will be the first round of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament.  With SAGU’s second place finish in the SAC, they also have qualified for the NAIA National Championship.
