Waxahachie, Texas- April 5, 2016- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) baseball team (13-29) competed in their final non- Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) game.  The Lions lost to Howard Payne University (12-9), 7-2.

HPU was the first to put runs on the board when they got two in the top of the second. Walker Dailey singled to the pitcher’s mound, which was enough to allow Cliff Lunceford to score and Blake Laney advance to third.  After a wild pitch by SAGU, Laney was able to score.  The Lions were able to end the inning on a double play.

SAGU scored both of their two runs in the bottom of the fourth.  To start the inning, Jake Payonk singled to center and then advanced to second after Jake Killion hit a sacrifice bunt.  Next, Griffin Glenn reached base on a walk. Raul Castro found a hole at short stop and singled, driving in Payonk.  Finally, Elijah Young singled to shallow right field, scoring Glenn.  The Lions left two stranded on base.

Going into the top of the fifth, the game was tied 2-2.  Unfortunately, HPU quickly picked up one run in the fifth.

The Yellow Jackets big inning came in the seventh when they scored three runs off of three hits.

For SAGU, Ty Chiglo started on the mound and pitched four innings for SAGU.  Chiglo had one strikeout and three hits with two runs scored.  After that, SAGU went through five other pitchers including; Jake Clary , Auston Moore , Spenser Hart , Mark Martinez and AJ Munos .

Offensively, Jake Payonk went one for three with one run scored for the Lions.

On Friday, April 8, 2016, SAGU will host Southwestern Christian for a three-game home stand.  Friday’s game will be played at the Waxahachie Sports Complex and begins at 6pm.  Southwestern Christian is currently 29-7 overall and 10-5 in the SAC.
