SAGU-Bethany College kickoff set for noon

WAXAHACHIE, Texas  — The Southwestern Assemblies of God University football home opener has changed sites, moving from Lumpkins Stadium eleven miles to Midlothian Stadium .

The start of the Saturday, September 7 game between SAGU and Bethany College , remains at noon (CST).

Two years ago the Lions were forced to play in Midlothian’s 8,000 seat facility when Lumpkins was concluding construction details.

The Lions rallied to defeat Howard Payne University , 21-15, on a late touchdown drive by then sophomore quarterback Reid Golson . He returns this season as a senior.

Dug in like a small bowl, the venue includes a 6,800 square foot press box and a scoreboard that features a high resolution, instant replay video screen. The multi-purpose stadium is owned by the Midlothian Independent School District.

Scheduling dynamics for the second annual Dale Hansen Football Classic , which has four area high school football games being played at Lumpkins Stadium on Sept. 6-7, led to the change.

Bethany College, located in Lindsborg, Kansas, went 4-7 a year ago, including a comeback, 13-12 squeaker against SAGU. The Swedes are #8 in the NAIA in all-time wins and own a 4-0 career mark against the Lions.

Two years at the Anderson Athletic Complex in Lindsborg, Bethany won a 29-21 decision against the Purple Pride .

Both teams will be introducing new helmets and logos.

The game will be broadcast in HD by SAGU Sports Live . Host announcer Rob Price returns to bring the action to viewers.
Fans can also follow on-line thanks to a LiveStats webcast, a digital, text version of the game’s play-by-play.

The SAGU Sports Network will supply score alerts on Twitter @SAGUSports Net while Instagram photos will be posted on the SSN Facebook fan page.

In just over a month the Facebook, the SAGU Sports Network has eclipsed 500 ‘Likes.’ Their goal is 700 by kickoff.

SSN will launch the premier of The War Room , a weekly coaches show, on Thursday night, Sept. 5. It will be repeated on Friday night and again on Saturday morning.

Swede followers have the option of watching the high definition, video broadcast while listing to radio on 95.5, The Rock, out of Kansas. James Westling and Levi Esses will be at the mic.

A complete preview of the game will posted on-line on Thursday, Sept. 5.
