Waxahachie, Texas- June 28, 2017 – Five Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lion’s teams have been awarded Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) Academic Team Awards for the recently completed 2016-2017 academic year. Women’s basketball, women’s soccer, volleyball, softball and women’s cross country teams each earned the prestigious honor.
“This is a tremendous achievement to have each of our women’s teams finish with a 3.0 GPA or higher. This speaks to the quality of student-athlete and the intentionality of our coaches in regard to academics,” explains SAGU Athletic Director Jesse Godding .
For SAGU, the softball team boasts the highest GPA of 3.47. A total of 48 teams from all 13 conference-sponsored sports had a least a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Women’s basketball had the most with seven teams at that mark or higher. Southwestern Christian University had four teams earn the top GPA including having the highest cumulative GPA of any team (3.82) in women’s basketball.
Cypress Risk Management , based in Omaha, Neb, is an insurance agency that specializes in providing customized solutions for collegiate student health and athletic accident insurance. The organization currently insures over 500,000 students nationwide and is already engaged with several other NAIA conferences in similar type of partnerships.
