Spring 2011 CommencementWaxahachie, TX – April 26, 2011 – Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) will hold its 99th commencement ceremony this Friday, April 29 at 6 p.m. in the Sheaffer Full Life Center Auditorium.

As the graduating class is expected to be one of the school’s largest, the auditorium will be ticketed seating only. Students will receive family and friend tickets during rehearsal graduation day. Auditorium seating will begin at 5 p.m. Ticketed guests who need handicap seating are advised to notify ushers as soon as possible. Overflow seating will be provided with live streaming of the event.

SAGU Senior English Major Wendy Byh from Lincoln, NE has been selected as student speaker by the university’s faculty. Byh has served as Southwestern Mission’s Association’s (SMA) President and Vice President and participated in SMA trips to Mexico, Argentina, India, and Haiti where she was a team leader. She played varsity soccer for two years and served as a Resident Assistant of Kendrick Dorm for one year. Upon graduation, Wendy intends to teach English on the mission field in North Africa or the Middle East.

G. Robert (Bob) Cook, Jr. will be the commencement speaker for the evening. He currently serves as the Executive Vice President of The Alliance for Assemblies of God Higher Education and an adjunct professor for SAGU’s Harrison School of Graduate Studies. Cook has been affiliated with the Assemblies of God since 1975 serving as church pastor, faculty and administration for Bethany University and the Rocky Mountain District Superintendent during his tenture. Bob earned a bachelor’s degree from Bethany Bible College in 1972, a master’s degree from Denver Seminary in 1986, and a doctor of ministry degree in Pentecostal Leadership from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in 2004.
