SAGU hosts Coaches vs. Cancer, Jan. 26

Waxahachie, Texas — January 21, 2013 — Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) will host Coaches versus Cancer, Saturday, January 26, 2013, on SAGU’s campus in the Sheaffer Full Life Center gymnasium. SAGU women’s and men’s basketball teams will play against Bacone College at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

“SAGU is blessed, once again, to serve our community by raising funds to aid in the fight against cancer,” said Men's Head Basketball Coach Donnie Bostwick. “We will also be honoring cancer survivors during the two games on Saturday.”

To help with his personal battle with lymphoma, SAGU will donate all proceeds made to SAGU IT Director and Harmony Tabernacle Pastor (Lancaster, Texas) David Bush and his wife Joy.

There will be an opportunity for attendees to donate during the game as SAGU coaches share their personal battles with cancer. SAGU will accept donations mailed to the Athletics department at:

Attn: Basketball, 1200 Sycamore St.,Waxahachie, TX, 75165

SAGU will also pick up donations in person if requested. As a non-profit organization, SAGU will send a tax receipt for all donations soon after receiving each gift. Checks should be made payable to SAGU with Coaches vs. Cancer listed in the memo.

Coaches from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) join the American Cancer Society to raise awareness about cancer by wearing sneakers with their suits.

Bostwick shared, “Last year, SAGU as one of the leaders in donations among the NAIA — about 300 institution — to our local American Cancer Society.”

“This year we are taking a giant step forward in this worthy battle by asking local Ellis County businesses to join us in the fight. We are inviting companies, organizations and individuals to consider a donation that would match our fundraising efforts at a level they are comfortable in giving.”

“Every gift helps, no matter the size," he continued. "Whether it is $25 or $1,000 or $5,000, we appreciate your help.”

"SAGU is going on our fifth year in connection with Coaches versus Cancer. It is my prayer that we are able to not only bless David and Joy with an amazing gift, I believe our prayers and efforts are going to make a difference in defeating cancer someday soon."
