"Up in the Air" events to raise funds for Royal Family Kids CampWaxahachie, Texas — November 16, 2012 — Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) will host their third Royal Family Kids Camp (RFKC) in Summer 2013. "Up in the Air," a weeklong fundraiser for RFKC, is taking place this week at the Waxahachie, Texas, Chic-fil-A. All of the donations will go directly to South Dallas RFKC.

Special events were held throughout the week. The launch party began at 8 a.m. on Mon., Nov. 12. Will Randel, Associate Elementary Pastor at Trinity Church in Cedar Hill, Texas, was lifted 40 feet into the air on a scissor lift in the Chic-fil-A parking lot, where is living the rest of the week to raise awareness for RFKC. Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. was school night; drum-lines from local schools competed. Family night was from 5-8 p.m. on Tues., Nov. 13. Activities included inflatables, carnival games, a photo booth and more. On Thursday, Nov. 15, SAGU President Kermit Bridges was "held hostage" in the lift until $1,000 was raised.

Comedy night was Thurs., Nov. 15, from 7-8 p.m. and featured John Michael Barajas from Trinity Church in Cedar Hill, Texas, and comedian Dorie McLemore.

Friday, Nov. 16, from 7-8 p.m. is concert night, and Sat., Nov. 17, from 6-8 p.m. is the landing party, during which Randel will be brought down from the lift and the week's results will be celebrated.

RFKC is a one-week camp for abused and neglected children ages 6-12. The camp’s purpose is to create life changing moments and introduce and reinforce a healthy family model to the children.

SAGU hosted its first camp the summer of 2011. Thirty-eight children attended and 41 SAGU students, staff and faculty served as volunteers. In 2012, more than 100 volunteers served 76 children in attendance. The 2013 camp will be held at SAGU July 1-5.
