SAGU hosts Spring 2012 Commencement ceremony

Waxahachie, TexasApril 24, 2012Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) will hold the Spring 2012 Commencement ceremony on Friday, April 27, at 6 p.m. in the Sheaffer Full Life Center Auditorium.

The auditorium will have ticketed seating only. Students will receive tickets at rehearsal the day of graduation. Auditorium seating will begin at 4:30 p.m. Ticketed guests who need handicap seating are advised to notify SAGU's School of Distance Education as soon as possible. Overflow seating will be provided with live streaming of the event in a room in the Sheaffer Full Life Center.

Dorothy Megan Timmerman will be the student speaker at the ceremony. Timmerman is completing a Bachelor of Arts in English with dual specializations in Literature and Writing. Timmerman has made the President’s List once and the Dean’s List on three separate occasions. In addition to her academic accomplishments, Megan also participated in a Mission TEN trip to Indonesia. Upon graduation, she intends to further her education in Comparative Literature and Classical Languages and become a novelist in young adult literature.

The commencement speaker will be the District 10 Texas State Representative Jim Pitts. Representative Pitts has earned a Bachelor of Business Administration, a Master of Business Administration and a Juris Doctorate from Southern Methodist University. Representative Pitts has practiced law in Waxahachie for 36 years with a specialization in General and Real Estate Law.

In 1992, Representative Pitts was elected to the Texas State Legislature as the House Representative for District 10. Among his recognitions, Representative Pitts was Waxahachie’s Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 1999, and Texas Monthly Magazine named him one of Texas’ Ten Best Legislatures in 2005. Independence Colleges and Universities of Texas gave him the “Leader of Excellence Award.”
