SAGU hosts concert with Indian worship band Aradhna

Waxahachie, TX – March 22, 2012 – Chris Hale and Pete Hicks, members of the musical group Aradhna, will perform at Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) on March 27, 2012. The concert will be held at 7 p.m. in McCafferty Hall (Administration Building). The event is free and open to the public.

The SAGU Missions Department is hosting Aradhna to raise awareness about cross-cultural ministry. The musical group transforms Hindi Hymns and music into Christian songs. Aradhna means “adoration” in the language of Hindi. The band desires to create cross-cultural dialogue through the arts and sings in multiple languages.

Hale, sitarist and vocalist, and Hicks, guitarist and vocalist, founded Aradhna. Both members are American with strong ties to the language and music of India. Hale spent much of his childhood and adolescence in South Asia, where he began studying music and the languages of Nepali and Hindi. He later formed the rock fusion band Olio and toured India. Hicks was born in India and played in an Indian band in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

Aradhna has performed primarily in India and North America. They have also toured in South Africa, Guyana and Suriname.

The band’s sixth album, Namaste Saté, was released on January 26, 2011. The album is accompanied by the DVD Sau Guna, a showcase of the music of Sau Guna and the region that inspired the songs.
