Renowned educator Carrie Abbott addresses students about biblical perspectives of gender

Carrie Abbott speaks at Southwestern Assemblies of God UniversityWaxahachie, TexasJanuary 31, 2012Carrie Abbott, a leading communicator and educator on human sexuality and relationships, spoke during chapel at Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) on January 25-26, 2012.

Twenty-three years ago, Abbott began her ministry as a volunteer in the abstinence program at a crisis pregnancy center. She says, "I love watching people’s lives change because of learning the truth and being able to apply it to their lives.”

Her message is about living with sexual integrity. "Sexual integrity is living out your nature in line with God’s design in all five areas of your life: physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially and spiritually,” says Abbott.

On Wednesday, Abbott spoke during chapel and a 7 p.m. evening session. She spoke for two sessions Thursday during an extended chapel time. The Wednesday evening session included a Q-and-A time where students submitted anonymous questions to Abbott. Abbott addressed topics including the Five Levels of Intimacy, homosexuality, sexual abuse, differences between males and females and the Stages of Bonding. The chapel sessions are archived at www.sagu.tv.

Abbott received a positive response from the SAGU student body. Students appreciated the practicality of her message.

SAGU student Christina White said, “I appreciated the way she broke the message down in a way that anyone can understand. Her communication style was so practical. It is challenging to deliver a message that contradicts the teachings of society, but she found a way to communicate and re-establish biblical principles with humility.”

SAGU students Josh Jans and Liz Odom, youth pastors at Elevate Church (Murphy, Texas), said, "The issues Abbott addressed are issues that affect our youth students on a daily basis. Her teachings gave us a better understanding of biblical principles and showed us how we can communicate those truths to our students in a way that is relatable to them.”

Abbott is the President of the Legacy Institute, an organization that promotes a message of sexual integrity according to God’s intentional design. Abbott has 23 years of teaching experience and speaks across the nation in state legislatures, churches, schools, medical associations and other venues. She is the author of "The Sexual Integrity Program” and “The Biblical Blueprint for Sexuality” video series as well as an author and developer of “Relationships With Integrity,” a K-12 curriculum. Abbott also hosts “Legacy Out Loud,” her own radio show in Seattle, Washington.

Abbott wants students to know that a commitment to purity can change lives, regardless of previous history or mistakes. She says, “It is never too late to start over.”
