Waxahachie, Texas- August 30, 2014- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s soccer team fell to Southwestern College (1-0) in their home opener. The final score was 0-2. The game was called in the 71st minute because of lightening.

The closest chance SAGU had to score was off of a cross from junior Joy Reyes to freshman Shakinah Ellis. Ellis kicked it over the goal.

Southwestern College’s (Kansas) first goal came off of a corner kick. The ball cross the goal mouth and was touched in by a Southwestern player, deflecting off of junior defender Leslie Paez into the far post. Their second goal came off of an unchallenged shot from the middle. The goal fell below the cross bar where sophomore goalie Kathleen Espinosa could not cover.

With a little less than 20 minutes left in the match the game was delayed because of lightning. After an hour wait the game was called.

The SAGU men’s soccer game was cancelled because of the slow moving storm.

The Lady Lions will take a week off before heading south to take on the University of St. Thomas-Houston. The game is September 6, 2014 at 3:00pm.
