Lady Lions Not so Rosey in Tyler

Guinn, Garcia Team-up to Produce Goal

TYLER, Texas -- The Lady Steers of Texas College got just enough offense and defense to hold off the Southwestern Assemblies of God University women's soccer team, 2-1, on Monday afternoon.

SAGU's goal was the first of her career by freshman Kerri Guinn (Nevada, Tx / Community HS). The midfielder with an infectious smile, took a pass from junior Danni Garcia (Tucson, Az / Rio Rico HS) and sent it between the pipes and tickled the twine.

The diminutive Guinn (pronounced like Gwinn), with a 5-foot-2 frame, is appropriately from the little town of Nevada, Texas. Nevada (pronounced Nah-VAY-duh) has a population of just over 500. It is located northwest of Dallas, near Wylie and Lake Lavon. The small town produced a big scorer on Monday!

The Lady Lions fell to 2-12 for the season with their sixth one-goal setback. Three of those losses came during 2-1 scores, with the others were by 1-0 decisions.

Making a Run for the Border

Southwestern will make a "far trek" this weekend in their longest road trip of the season. They will be in the Mission City (230 miles) on Thursday to face Our Lady of the Lake University. They will continue to the Rio Grande Valley for a Saturday clash with the University of Texas at Brownsville, the conference's largest school (enr. 18,000). It is just over 450 miles to Brownsville.
